Laundering

Laundering Guide

Nomex® DuPont garments can be laundered like normal laundry, but certain precautions should be taken to maintain their flame-resistant properties and extend their lifespan. Always include a rinse cycle to remove soap and detergent residue, and avoid using strong oxidizing agents like bleach. Tumble dry on low and remove while slightly damp to prevent damage.

Detailed Laundering Instructions:

  • Washing:

Wash Nomex® garments with a mild detergent, preferably one designed for delicate fabrics. Avoid using chlorine bleach or other strong oxidizing agents, as these can degrade the fabric.

  • Rinsing:

Ensure a thorough rinse cycle to remove all traces of soap and detergent, as these can interfere with the flame-resistant properties.

  • Drying:

Tumble dry on low heat. Avoid over-drying, as this can damage the fibers. Remove the garments while they are still slightly damp.

  • Stain Removal:

For stubborn stains, consider using a spot cleaner specifically designed for Nomex® or a dry cleaning service. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for any cleaning products.

  • Colorfastness:

If color retention is a concern, dry cleaning may be a better option than laundering, as it can minimize color fading.

  • Durability:

Nomex® is a durable fabric and can withstand frequent laundering. Industrial launderers estimate that Nomex® garments can be washed and worn at least 125 times without compromising their protective qualities, according to DuPont Canada

  • Contamination:

If Nomex® garments become contaminated with chemicals, remove the contaminants as soon as possible. Identify the contaminated areas so that the cleaning facility can spot clean them before routine laundering or dry cleaning.

  • Specialty Cleaners:

Consider using specialty detergents like Molecule Wash, designed for Nomex® and other flame-resistant fabrics, to ensure optimal cleaning and performance.
